Position Summary

Job Overview

We are seeking individuals with leadership abilities to work with children ages 5 to 12 years old in our after-school program. In this role, you will be assisting in providing nurturing care and education to young children in a group setting.


Main Responsibilities

Based on our high standards, you will:

  • Be responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate after-school program for the children of The Kid's Klub in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedure as the program is licensed, and run by the City of Grande Prairie.
  • Ensure guidance of children's behaviour that encourages positive self-concept.
  • Make sure gross motor skill development is part of the daily routine.
  • Ensure the child's environment is healthy and safe.
  • Ensure positive communication with parents.
  • Work cooperatively as a member of the team, facilitating a team environment through personal behaviour, work contributions and the sharing of expertise and knowledge.
  • Maintains a constant awareness of the “client” and exhibits recognition and appreciation of their needs with the ability to achieve results with positive outcomes.
  • Present yourself in a positive and professional manner.
  • Be able to work well both independently and within a team. The Supervisor might not be on site at all times.

Qualifications

In order to join our team you must have:

  • A Child Development Assistant certificate
  • A current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate A
  • Clear Criminal Records Check and Child Welfare Check completed within 1 month of hire date
  • At least one year of previous experience working with children
  • Experience in leadership, team building and program planning is considered an asset
  • You need the confidence and ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, participants, and parents
  • You must have a clear understanding of “child centered” programming and have the ability to plan age appropriate activities for children aged 6 to 11 years
  • Be actively engaged and involved with children each day; including planning daily outdoor time in all ranges of temperatures, subject to safety guidelines
  • Must be able to HAVE FUN!

Salary / Wage

$17.80 per hour as per CUPE Agreement
