Grande Prairie is a dynamic urban centre located on the southern edge of the Peace River Region. In this new role, the City Solicitor will hold a significant strategic advisory role in supporting critical decision making within the City of Grande Prairie and its related organizations. The City Solicitor will be responsible for providing in-house legal counsel and managing outside legal services for the City of Grande Prairie. This includes providing oral and written advice and opinions on diverse legal matters to management and City Council, its boards, committees and related organizations.

As the successful candidate, you have a minimum of 10 years’ experience at a senior level, providing legal expertise within a multi-faceted organization. Your knowledge is diverse and covers relevant areas of law relating to Municipal Government, including drafting by-laws and agreements, planning and development, real estate, employment law, assessment and taxation, and procurement. You will also provide legal representation before the courts and administrative tribunals.

Your strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills allows you to analyze complex legal issues and translate legal concepts effectively. You have comprehensive knowledge of applicable legislation relating to relevant federal and provincial legislation.
