Job Overview

The Northwest FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) PEACE Network is seeking a talented and passionate Community FASD Resource Advocate in the Northwest Region.  This position currently located within the Community Social Development department at the City of Grande Prairie, will play a crucial role in providing information, referrals and access to services for clients who have been diagnosed or are suspected of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Based in Grande Prairie, this role offers indirect supports throughout the Northwest region including the areas of High Prairie, Peace River and Grande Cache.

This position is currently with the City of Grande Prairie however, the NW FASD Network is currently in the process of becoming a society.  As a society, this program will continue to be offered out of a new location and operate under non- profit society status. This position is a temporary contract (June 4th - March 31st, 2019) with chance of renewal on annual basis depending on provincial funding.   This role will require work outside of regular hours (10% of time). This contract requires travel to the four main areas of the Region (20 %).   A valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable vehicle for travel in the region are required.


Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Health, Human or Social services or related field
  • General knowledge of FASD and the impact on individuals, families, and communities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services
  • A belief and commitment to inclusion, the right for all people to belong, participate and contribute to the community
  • Ability to work with different cultures and vulnerable populations
  • Ability to advocate for families and individuals for services and community resources
  • Demonstrated ability to foster relationships and partnerships
  • Responsible for disseminating information regarding training and research via email lists and online programs
  • Experience in facilitation/and participation on diverse teams
  • Mentoring and providing assistance to FASD Mentors
  • A minimum of 3 years progressive and related experience (a combination of relevant education and experience will be considered)
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license and a clean driver's abstract; and access to a reliable vehicle for travel
  • A current and clear criminal record check including vulnerable sector check
